      It is 19 or 17 as we don’t know enough about this question:

      255.255.255.224 goes up by 32

      .32 = 1 host
      .33 – .40 = 8 hosts
      .41 – .59 = 19 hosts
      .60 – .63 = 4 hosts

      1+8+19+4 = 32 hosts – 2 unusable = 30 hosts

      We don’t know if the default-gateway or the default-router are included as excluded addresses or not (HOPEFULLY NOT!!!)

      That’s why I would say it’s 19 and not 17 though there is a chance that it could be some moron who put the default-router and default-gateway in with the usable part of the network.

        So, given that you cannot assign the network .32 and the broadcast .63 and the 12 addresses in the excluded list, 32-2-12=18 is the MOST you can assign. Since 18 is not an option you have to go with the lower number and pick 17. If you say 19 then you are saying that you can assign either the network .32 or the broadcast .63. And you cannot assign either.

        The correct answer is 17.

        The standard ACL is put closest to the destination so the S 0/0/0 answer is correct and it is going out of S 0/0/0 to reach the Internet so that’s why the selected answer is correct.

          No, Standard ACL position closet to the Source. Extended are closet to Destination. And the question says the same ACL permits network 192.168.0.0 to reach 192.168.1.0, putting the ACL on Serial interface can not control traffic between those 2 networks. Therefore, putting of Fa0/0 Inbound it can do both, stop traffic from reaching S0/0 and allow traffic to reach Fa0/1.

            Actually, it’s the opposite. You want to apply Standard ACL’s closest to the Destination so that you don’t accidentally block more traffic than is necessary and force interfaces along the way to manually allow that traffic to go through the network. Extended ACL’s are closest to the source. Now the outbound/inbound part always trips me up, but I remember you usually used outbound for Standard ACL’s and inbound for Extended throughout the course.

            Because Standard ACL’s can’t define protocol you have to place it on s0/0/0 outbound to block the 192.168.0.0/24 network from reaching the Internet. You don’t need an ACL on either fa0/0 or fa0/1 to allow traffic to reach one another, traffic will automatically do that anyways. I think people are assuming it would be like this:

            s0/0/0 outbound
            access list 1 deny 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.255
            access list 1 permit 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255

            and that is the incorrect way of looking at it because standard ACL’s only know how to block source, not destination and thus would not be needed in the first place. It’s more like a Cisco trump question. Of course I could be wrong, but someone please fill me in and educate me if I am. If this comes up I’m going with s0/0/0 outbound and will report lol.

        If you apply it fa0/0 inbound then the network in 192.168.0.0 won’t be able to reach not just the internet but 192.168.1.0 network as well. So it is right to apply it on s0/0/0 outbound

        need 1 for gateway and 1 for broadcast so 17 addresses

      Q25. DSL is not considered a shared connection but it DOES share connection at the DSLAM meaning the more people on the DSLAM the less transfer rate (trust me I’ve changed DSLAM 3 times so far), it is also mentioned in the online courses.

      Q27. It asks for the client not the network addresses. 19 available network addresses, -1 for gateway and -1 for broadcast it’s 17 client addresses.

        I didn’t see that you excluded gateway and broadcast. But you can’t exclude the broadcast address, every network assigns one anyway. .32 is the network address, .41 is the gateway address and .59 is the broadcast address. So that leaves us with 17 usable client addresses from .42 to .58

I don see any need for that. .33 can be the gateway, and this would be a very good reason to exclude it from the DHCP, so that it is not offered to any host! Still, remember that a gateway is still a host, so even if .41 is the gateway, it will be sent by the DHCP! “.59 is the broadcast address” Wow, that’s really far from IP concepts! Wrong! .63 is the broadcast for that network, it doesn’t matter if it is excluded from DHCP. Have something in mind: .33-.40 and .60-.62 are still usable on this network!     A subnet mask of 255.255.255.224 has 32 addresses in the host portion (from .0 – .31) 3 of these are are unusable: the network address (.0) the broadcast address (.31) and the router address. So that leaves 32-3 = 29 usable addresses. 29-12 (excluded) = 17.

      If you check closely the second group of excluded addresses you will see that the broadcast IP (.63) is mentioned, and you have already taken it out of the usable IPs, sooooo, in stead of 4 excluded IPs y reality there are 3 IPs excluded… plus the 8 from the first group the total excluded addresses is 11 (not 12)… now…. the question does not mention what is the router´s ip, you are assumming the IP is not in the excluded groups, however, you can assigned an IP that is mentioned in the excluded command… so, if we take the Network IP and the Broadcast IP out, we end up with 30 usable IP´s minus the 11 from the excluded commands, DHCP will be able to lease 19 IP´s address to the the hosts….

      You are messing things. Answer is 19, that’s so clear. Stop counting and subtracting. Just have this in mind: in this network, .32 is address (unusable) and .63 is broadcast(unusable). ALL OTHER ARE USABLE! Exclusions in DHCP doesn’t exclude them from working on the network! It just means it will not be offered! As these are already excluded, you CANNOT subtract 2 addresses from the pool. You have from .41 to .59 to hosts. This means 19 addresses will be offered! But if you still want to count, do it: .41 .42 .43 .44 .45 .46 .47 .48 .49 .50 .51 .52 .53 .54 .55 .56 .57 .58 .59 (how many dots can you count?)

      Review DHCP (and its functions) chapter! Answer is 19. If you want to take a proof, put it in Packet Tracer. Connect a router to a Switch with 24 ports, connect 20 PCs to the switch. Assign IP .33 to router, exclude adresses as stated, create the pool. Then, configure PCs to get IPs from DHCP one by one. You’ll see: 1) Except for he last one, all PCs get addresses (in other words, 19 hosts are assigned). 2) Broadcast is IP .63, if you want to test, ping 172.16.5.63 from the router. With exception to the router obviously (otherwise it would generate a loop), all PC will respond to the request. Therefore, answer is 19.

      The question is asking for the Source IP address once the packet is returned from the Web Server, so, the IP header in the packet from the Web Server to the Host A will be:

      Source IP address: 192.168.1.2:80 (Web Server)
      Destination IP address: 172.30.20.1:3333 (The router will translate this address to the IP address that has been assigned to the host A – 10.1.1.2)

    Please note that the default-router ip will be always excluded even if you do not explicity mention in the excluded command, also, if you want you can add the router,s ip in the excluded ip address group, any way you do it, DHCP will not lease the IP address you stated as default-router….

      But they are on the same network (.5 and .6 are two only hosts ip for that network, .4 is the network adress and .7 is the broadcast).

      You can see that the keychain string (wich is case-sensitive) it’s different between the routers. It should be the same; authentication fails because of that, then routing updates are not exchanged.
      Therefore the right answer is

      “The authentication key strings do not match.”

      I think you are correct. That answer they are saying would be “erase startup-config” not no service config. That command stops a common TFTP error message which can be quite annoying from making it impossible to function on the device. Has nothing to do with restoring anything on restart.

    Actually, it’s the opposite. You want to apply Standard ACL’s closest to the Destination so that you don’t accidentally block more traffic than is necessary and force interfaces along the way to manually allow that traffic to go through the network. Extended ACL’s are closest to the source. Now the outbound/inbound part always trips me up, but I remember you usually used outbound for Standard ACL’s and inbound for Extended throughout the course.

    Because Standard ACL’s can’t define protocol you have to place it on s0/0/0 outbound to block the 192.168.0.0/24 network from reaching the Internet. You don’t need an ACL on either fa0/0 or fa0/1 to allow traffic to reach one another, traffic will automatically do that anyways. I think people are assuming it would be like this:

    s0/0/0 outbound
    access list 1 deny 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.255
    access list 1 permit 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255

    and that is the incorrect way of looking at it because standard ACL’s only know how to block source, not destination and thus would not be needed in the first place. It’s more like a Cisco trump question. Of course I could be wrong, but someone please fill me in and educate me if I am. If this comes up I’m going with s0/0/0 outbound and will report lol.
